Remove yourself from day-to-day cooking and set aside a day to complete this exclusive and - potentially life-saving - Foraging and Cooking Course in Cumbria. This unforgettable experience will soon see you obtain a new love for the outdoors!

This in-depth, 6 hour experience takes place in rural Cumbria. Once you have met your group for the day, you will each board a canoe and paddle over to a secluded survival island, where you’ll meet your instructors. Once you have been introduced, it’s into the woodland for a health and safety briefing, and to go over the day’s itinerary. From building traps, and learning how to safely filter water, to spoon whittling, and preparing your own rabbit stew, you and your group will cover a variety of outdoor techniques. The day will finish with a introduction to Plant Identification and an exciting bushtucker challenge!

Availability

This course operates only 3 days a year. The currently scheduled dates are as follows:

Requirements

Participants as young as 12 can attend, however, they must be accompanied by a paying adult. Those 16 and over would not need to be accompanied by an adult.

Experience Duration: 06:00

Time Spent at Venue: 06:00

The experience lasts for around 6 hours from 10am till 4pm.

Participants: The 1 Day Foraging and Cooking Course in Cumbria is for 1 participant.

Max Group Size: +10

Spectators Allowed on Site: No

Minimum Group Size: 8

Maximum Group Size: 24

Unfortunately this is not suitable for non paying participants.

Where is it Located
What to wear

Please bring the following:

- Waterproof Jacket and trousers.

- Full-finger gloves.

- Woolly hat.

- Scarf.

- Spare change of clothes including socks.

In the colder months then it is advisable to wear multiple layers and the warmer months a sun hat is recommended.

If you can stick to natural colours, this will improve your chances of spotting wildlife.

- 1 litre of drinking water in a plastic bottle.

- A knife, folk, spoon, bowl & mug.

- A household sponge and biodegradable multi purpose soap are ideal. You are asked that you do not bring soap that will have a detrimental effect on the environment.

- Wash kit; toothpaste, toothbrush, anti - bacterial wipes, talcum powder and toilet paper.

- Pocket notebook and pencil with eraser.

- Personal first aid kit; this should include plasters, anti bacterial wipes, insect repellent, UV protection and a small bandage.

- Any personal medication (e.g. insulin, ventolin etc).

- Carrier bags x2

- Tea/coffee/dried milk/sugar.

Everything should be contained in a single rucksack. For guidance a 45 - 55 litre rucksack should be fine.


Please note: Food will be provided by the instructors.


*DISCLAIMER* This experience does occasionally involve the culling of wild animals. This comes with strict permission from the land owner. You will have the option to speak to the instructor privately if you would prefer not to take part.
