As I’m sure you know, the city of Nottingham and the surrounding county is full of history and beautiful sights. Whether you love its rich connection to the famous Robin Hood, exploring the interesting facts of Nottingham Castle, or getting lost in the City of Caves, Nottingham is undeniably a must-visit for any tourist. However, if you’re local to Nottinghamshire, you’ve probably already seen all the top tourist sights a million times over, and you’re ready for something new. So, here are our top 10 days out in Nottinghamshire for the people who live there! Whether you’re looking to buy a gift for a loved one, or just looking for some inspiration for how to spend your weekend, we’ve got a great selection of exciting experiences for everyone!
We’re starting things off with one of our most popular experiences here at Experience Days. Located in Newark, a little outside of Nottingham, this afternoon tea for two at the stunning Thoresby Hall has been a firm favourite amongst our customers across the years. Daniel from Leicestershire even went so far as to say:
“I came to Thoresby Hall with my Fiancé for our anniversary- and it was an absolute special treat! The surroundings were overwhelmingly beautiful! The food was to die for! The service was fantastic. Will definitely be returning! 5*+++++ rating!”
If Daniel’s enthusiastic review isn’t making you rush to get there this weekend, I don’t know what will! The 19th century country house is a stunning sight to behold with its grand structure and picturesque grounds. Your afternoon tea will take place in the award-winning Blue Grill restaurant. You’ll get the chance to dine like royalty (just like the dukes and duchesses who used to reside in the very same hall). Expect all the usual suspects when it comes to the tea itself, including a selection of finger sandwiches (smoked salmon and cream cheese must be my personal favourite), with bite-sized sweet treats and, of course, scones served with clotted cream and jam. You’ll even get a glass of Prosecco each to enjoy alongside your tea, for the perfect afternoon treat.
If you’re living in Nottinghamshire, then of course you know all about Robin Hood and his merry men. This experience will allow anyone aged 7 and over to learn the medieval art of archery, just like the altruistic hero himself. But why stop there? The Target Shooting Triple goes that step further and throws catapults and guns into the mix! That’s right, you’ll get the chance to try your hand at shooting a real-life air rifle, traditionally used for hunting, just like you’ve seen in the movies. Then onto something completely unique, the Cobra Slingshot, a magnificent adaptation of the traditional Y-shaped slingshot. You’ll feel like a modern Dennis the Menace as you shoot at the targets and compete against others to score the most points! This is the perfect family day out, or even a fun date idea if you’re looking to try some new activities. It’s always entertaining to add a little healthy competition to the activity, and I’m a big fan of the old ‘loser buys dinner’ bet. A chance to show off my shooting skills and a free dinner? I’m sold.
If you love driving, but fancy something a little different from speeding around a racetrack in the latest supercar, then why not have a go at off-road driving at it’s very best? Held in the legendary Sherwood Forest, this one-hour experience treats drivers to private tuition from a professional motorist, as they explore the thrill of driving on rough terrain, over fallen trees and through ditches and rivers. You’ll be shocked at what a 4x4 vehicle can achieve. This is your chance to push the powerful machine to its very limits in the safest way possible. Accompanied by a professional who is knowledgeable about all things off-road, you’re sure to have a great time. If you read through the customer reviews, you’ll learn that the instructor is one of the main selling points for this experience. Everyone has mentioned how beneficial his information has been to their driving, showing that this private lesson can be more than just a bit of fun! If you don’t think you’ll have a good time with you and a random dude alone in a forest, then this experience allows you to bring up to two passengers to join in the adventure (however, we can’t guarantee they won’t laugh at your bad driving).
Now this one may be a bit out there for your spur of the moment, last minute weekend plans. A skydive might require a little more preparation, but I promise you it’ll be worth it. A tandem skydive (for those daring enough to brave the whole jumping out of a plane at 13,000ft thing), is one of the most exhilarating – and, not to mention, breathtakingly beautiful - experiences you could do, and you can do it right here in Nottingham! I can guarantee this experience makes an appearance on a lot of bucket lists, so now you know it’s right on your doorstep, why not add it to yours? You’ll be strapped to a professional instructor and in the hands of an expert. Once the aircraft has taken you up to 13,000ft, your instructor will open the hatch and begin the dive. You’ll start off with descending 8,000ft in 50 seconds. This will give you a feeling of euphoria, caused by adrenaline. It is a feeling unlike any other and is indescribable to any who haven’t experienced the thrill of free-falling through the air at 120mph. Once the parachute has opened, you’ll enjoy a 6-7-minute gentle glide down to the ground. This’ll give you the chance to take in magnificent panoramic views of the East Midlands. The sense of achievement and the memory of your dive will be with you until you’re ready to do it all over again.
White water rafting has rapid-ly (get
it?) become one of England’s favourite extreme sports. The activity utilises
the need for teamwork to ensure the group get safely to the end of the course.
This creates a sense of unity amongst you and your rafting friends, as you dip
and duck across the rough water, between rocks and over rapids. You’ll have an
expert guide at the helm of the float, ready to help if necessary. This
introduction to white water rafting in Nottingham is perfect for beginners.
There’s nothing too extreme within the course, making it a great way to build
up confidence with the sport before moving on to harsher and faster rapids.
You’ll join a boat of 6-8 keen rafters and work together to complete the
purpose built 700 metre course, up to four times.
We’re returning to Thoresby Hall, this time for the ultimate day of relaxation. You even get a two-course lunch at Le Bistro restaurant included in the price for the perfect indulgence. Although this is a great activity for couples, anyone over the age of 21 is welcome to join. This experience will give you a full pass to the hotel spa for the whole day. This means you can enjoy some of the premium features such as the sanarium (a sauna that works with humidity rather than dry heat), aromatherapy cave, steam room, ice cave, relaxation lounge, foot spa, hydro-pool spa and leisure club, which is equipped with indoor swimming pool, bubble pool and fitness centre. You’ll then get the chance to book in a Rhassoul Treatment session, for yet more relaxation. We know it’ll be hard to fit in the 45-minute session with your two-course lunch and full day of tranquillity, but we’re sure you’ll find the time! The treatment involves applying organic mineral-rich mud across both you and your companion’s bodies and faces, which is said to help you relax, as well as improve the health and vitality of the skin. The clay/mud mixture can also be beneficial to hair if you feel like applying a non-conventional deep conditioner. Dating all the way back to ancient Egyptian times, this treatment is now most commonly used in Turkish baths. No need to book your flights to Turkey though, you can get it right now in the exotic county of Nottinghamshire.
For many, photography is the perfect way to express themselves artistically. For me, it’s all about capturing special moments in life, and being able to preserve them, as well as share them with others. Photography lessons can often become more than just a hobby or a past time, they can be genuinely helpful to your career, to add to a CV, or apply to a blog/social media page for a little extra cash. Sometimes you’ve gotta spend money to make money and all that. This class welcomes everyone interested in photography, whether you’re keen to apply your new skills to a job, or you just want to hang some of your photographs in your home to show off to your friends. The class will help you to identify your own style, not only with the direction from the tutor, but also with inspiration from your peers. You’ll learn the ins and outs of how to get the most out of a DSLR camera including essential skills such as the rule of thirds, wide angled lenses, motion blur, shooting into the light and unusual focus points. This is a great way to get out and rediscover a passion you may have forgotten, as well as learning some useful skills.

Our best-selling go-karting experience luckily has a track in Nottinghamshire! The session can last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour depending on the track. Within this time, you’ll get the chance to really put your driving skills to the test. The experience will assess your speed and your control as you attempt to get around the track as fast as possible. This race is sure to bring out your competitive side, as the feeling of winning against the other drivers you’ve been trying so hard to beat is unlike any other. I recommend taking your whole family and all your friends (to win number one bragging rights for the rest of eternity).
