Enjoy a peaceful morning or afternoon in the picturesque Newcastle countryside during this Hawk Walk experience, perfect for lovers of the great outdoors as a wonderfully unique experience gift.
The Hawk Walk begins on arrival at the centre, where you'll meet the instructor and the rest of your group, as well as the beautiful Harris Hawk who will be accompanying you. Setting off into the Newcastle woodland, you'll pass historic sites such as the old Newburn coke ovens and the birth place of famous engineer George Stevenson, with the instructor providing a fascinating commentary as you go. Whilst you're walking, the Harris Hawk will be swooping from tree to tree above you, and coming to land gracefully on your arm when called, so you can truly appreciate the powerful yet gentle nature of these birds. The instructor will explain all about the hawks and how best to handle them, so by the end of the walk you'll have fallen completely in love with these majestic animals!
The experience ends back at the centre where you have the opportunity to indulge in a delicious roast dinner (pre-booking is essential and costs £10), and ask the instructor more questions about the hawks and the local area.
