Try your hand at the culinary art of spinning sugar with this half day cookery workshop in Devon. You’ll be learning this sweet skill from a highly experienced chef, who will teach the techniques used to create sugar cages, pralines and even beautiful hazelnut lattices.
Your spun sugar experience begins upon arrival at the state of the art cookery school in Exeter. You’ll receive a welcome and briefing from your highly experienced chef, introducing you to the basics of working with caramel. Then it’ll be your turn to give it a go! First off, you'll create the caramel base. Your chef will be on hand throughout, giving professional tips on how to attain the perfect consistency for spinning sugar. You'll soon discover that this technique is great fun as you create gossamer threads of sweet sugar ready to mould and shape into your creation. During the class, you’ll create a variety of sugary creations from caramel coated hazelnut droplets to nut brittles and honeycomb. This is a cookery experience that’ll give you the skills to create sweet treats like a top chef.

There is no minimum or maximum age limit as such.
So long as participants are safe to handle knives, hot pans and other kitchen equipment safely, they will be fine to take part - if you are concerned, please ask before purchasing.
If you have any severe allergies or are vegetarian, please alert the cookery school upon booking and they will be happy to discuss dish possibilities.

This spun sugar workshop is not suitable for spectators, however there is plenty to do in the local area as the school is situated in the city centre.
All cookery equipment such as knives, bowls, pans and aprons will be provided by the school upon arrival.
You are advised to wear comfy shoes, as you will be on your feet throughout your experience - open-toed shoes are not appropriate in the kitchen.
Please be prepared to tie long hair back.
This sugar class takes place in a state of the art, purpose-built cookery school, so will not be affected by the weather.
