This entertaining walking tour of Edinburgh will delight those with a taste for all things ghostly and gruesome. Explore the Royal Mile’s historic closes, wynds and underground vaults – and uncover some of the grisly tales they have to tell.
The tour departs from the Royal Mile Police Box – one of Europe’s most expensive pieces of real estate per square foot. From here, you’ll be led on an hour’s stroll through some of the alleyways and courtyards leading off from the main thoroughfare. Your guide will be a fully-costumed figure from the city’s past – perhaps the disreputable anatomist, Robert Knox; half-hanged Maggie Dickson; or the ‘Cannibal Earl’, James Douglas! Whoever it is, you’ll find your sinister companion to be a treasure-trove of well-researched anecdotes, facts and the occasional wicked joke. After taking in the sites above ground, they’ll lead the way as you descend into the Edinburgh Vaults. Here, you’ll discover what illicit purposes the vaults were once put to, and which nefarious characters once haunted their subterranean chambers.
The Edinburgh Vaults Paranormal Walking Tour for Two is a great afternoon activity, suitable for the whole family – provided everyone enjoys a fright! A voucher would make a unique gift for a ghoulish loved one.
