This stone carving workshop, in Stafford, is a chance for budding sculptors to develop their technique, in an instructive environment. Create your own stunning relief out of sandstone or limestone, and benefit from an experienced teacher’s advice and encouragement.
The art of stone carving dates back hundreds of thousands of years. The material’s durability means that many early artworks still survive – the lasting legacy of ancient cultures around the world. During the full day course, you’ll learn to properly handle the tools of the trade, which haven’t really changed much since antiquity. Using a mallet and chisel, you’ll carve a raised design from a block of sandstone or limestone. If it’s your first time, you needn’t worry! You’ll receive individual attention and step-by-step guidance from your friendly instructor. Light refreshments are available throughout, and you’re welcome to enjoy lunch in the onsite bakery and café. All materials and tools are provided, and you’ll get to take home your hand carved souvenir at the end of the day.
