Paragliding Club Pilot Course in Derbyshire - improve both practical and theoretical abilities and gain new skills to become an independent paraglider!
- Ashbourne (Derbyshire)
- Price for 1 Participant
Paragliding is the purest form of flight available to us. Carried along by nothing other than the wind, paragliders can remain in the air for hours upon end, flying great distances and discovering the world's beauty from an angle shared only with birds. You must already be qualified to Elementary Pilot Certificate (EPC) level to do this course, and by the end of your paragliding lessons you will have the assurance and ability to fly solo! The CPC (Club Pilots Certificate) is recognised by the BHPA (British Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association), and means that once you have completed the course you can fly in a club environment and progress to more advanced qualifications. With a steady breeze blowing up, you can soar all day in perfect relaxation, gliding peacefully for many miles - or, if you prefer a bigger dosage of adrenaline, you can learn to do some of the most electrifying acrobatics imaginable. Paragliding truly does have something for everyone, so make those flying dreams and reality and book now!The CPC course draws upon the skills learnt during the Elementary Pilot Course, but with this course you will gain an extensive understanding about the theory of paragliding, as well as flying for much longer (and higher!) than before. You will learn how to take-off and land in a range of conditions, from light to moderately strong winds, and use your canopy's full range of airspeed appropriately. You will be taught how to make 180 degree turns, carry out hill-side and top landings, and implement the rapid descent technique. You will also learn how to fly safely with other pilots and gain important theoretical knowledge of meteorology, principles of flight, airlaw and general airmanship. At the end of this course, you will have passed the CP exam, which is an international recognised certification, and will have increased your skill level to prepare you for flying solo.
This course is available all year round - please check with our customer service team for specific availability.

Spectators Allowed on Site: Yes
Family and friends are more than welcome to come and see you fly, although for safety everyone must keep to allocated spectating areas, and children must be supervised at all times. There are toilets, a viewing area and a flying shop on site as well as a pilot’s room and classroom. A cafe runs Wednesday through to Sunday (closed Monday & Tuesday), where you can get refreshments (hot and cold snacks & drinks, crisps and chocolate...etc). Dogs are also welcome, but please keep them on a lead and clean up after them.
Sturdy boots with ankle support and no hooks are crucial for paragliding, as are gloves.
You should dress warmly - layers are always a good idea, that way you can take some off if you get hot. Shorts are not advised, but suncream and a hat are essential during summer.
Flying is hungry work so it is advisable to take a packed lunch, and of course plenty of water to drink.
The centre will provide you with all the paragliding gear you need.
Weather is very important for paragliding and you need the right conditions. It is advisable to call the centre on the day of your paragliding lesson to check if it is definitely going ahead - if it rains or the wind is too strong, then your flying day may be shortened or postponed. If this occurs, a new day of flying can be booked.
