After completion you'll be ready for the open water dives, and with over 5,800 PADI Centres worldwide you're sure to find a convenient one to complete your four qualifying dives at, wherever you go on holiday.

For those of you who have always wanted to try SCUBA diving, New Horizons is the place to go. With instructors who are willing to cater to all experience levels, you can find a lesson that suits you. Whether you’re a complete beginner, or looking to become an instructor, New Horizons Dive Centre are able to accommodate you. I’ve been talking to Rachael about their fantastic underwater experiences and the history of the company.
1) Please explain your journey as ‘New Horizons Dive Centre’ so far.
Scuba Diving had always been on my list of things that I wanted to try ‘sometime’. Hitting my 50th birthday I decided that it was high time I took the plunge (no pun intended!) and I booked up for a Try Diving experience.
The introductory experience was enough to convince me that I needed to sign up for a full course and I qualified later the same year. I have now been fortunate enough to have been able to dive throughout the UK and in many exotic destinations as well as making many new friends who share my passion.
The ‘New Horizons Dive Centre’ ticked all the boxes for me and, wanting to be able to put something back into the industry which had given me so much excitement and adventure, I was thrilled to be asked to become a Director in 2010.
I am now in an ideal position to help ensure that our new divers continue to get the very best standard of teaching and care. I get immense satisfaction from seeing the sense of achievement divers feel when they qualify and from hearing their stories after their first dive adventures.
2) What differentiates your company from others?
We are family friendly and our focus is on safety and good diving practice but we will still make it fun! We aim to build long term relationships with customers who become our friends.
Having taught thousands of divers and enjoyed the company of many of them on UK and overseas trips we understand their diving abilities and wishes and can help them meet their dreams and aspirations. Having been in business for more than twenty years we are now being asked to teach the children of people we taught to dive as children themselves – a testimony in itself.
3) Is there any inside information you can give?
We will be patient and give you as much time as you need but if you are not absolutely sure that Scuba Diving will be for you then do the same as I did and do the Try Diving experience first.
We would love to be able to provide training to people with disabilities to give them an opportunity to participate in an active sport and help them to overcome their disabilities, enabling them to share in an activity where they can perform on an equal basis. We are currently investigating what we need to do to be able to do this.
And then of course there is our trip to Fiji in 2014……….
5) What would you say is your most frequently asked question?
How old do you have to be? (you can start at 8 years of age and we recently taught someone who was 80!)
