Experience the unrivaled majesty and power of
beautiful birds of prey, with this half day falconry course in
Cheshire. There is something supremely mysterious about these
highly-evolved creatures, but after 3 hours in close contact with
them while you learn falconry skills, you will definitely have a
deeper insight into their characteristics. While you get to grips
with handling birds of prey (or rather, while they get to grips
with you!), you will learn about their hunting habits, speed and
power, and you'll see how man and bird have made such an unlikely
but successful duo for so many thousands of years.

Once you have arrived at the location you will
be welcomed by your guide, who will begin your experience with a
fascinating talk about the ancient art of falconry. You will go for
a guided tour of the aviary where your expert handler will
introduce a spectacular selection of birds of prey that you will be
getting close to during the course of the day. The guides really
know their stuff, so feel free to ask any questions you can think
of! At this point you will get to learn falconry skills, and handle
a variety of birds of prey, ranging from beautiful tiny owls
through to the more sinister looking falcons and buzzards!
Once you have learned how to handle the birds 'on the glove', you will get to experience some of them fly in to land on your arm - even one of the centre's wonderful vultures! On top of all this, you will take in one of the daily displays run by the centre, and finish a superb experience with a 'hawk walk' - half an hour walking through surrounding fields with a team of Harris Hawks!

This was a fantastic day out, thank you to all the staff for such a memorable and informative day. Although the experience itself was only a half day, being able to go to the flying demonstrations and look at all the amazing birds you have at the centre meant that we filled a whole day. Would definitely recommend this experience.
A really enjoyable day. It would have been so much better if it was not foggy. Beautiful birds and the girl who took us round was very informative and obviously had a great love and enthusiasm for the birds.
I had a thoroughly enjoyable day, I learned loads and took some fab photos (well I'm chuffed with them!). Everything was excellent and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. To finish off the day surrounded by hawks, storks, vultures, kites and eagles was truly extra special. Many thanks to all involved!
Enthusiastic staff who showed & shared their love and knowledge of birds of prey & falconry. Great to have such close encounters with the birds & changed our opinion of vultures becoming aware of their positive benefit to the ecosystem ..should not judge a bird by their looks! Harris Hawk walk was a positive experience but one that would become treacherous for doing in adverse weather or if you had any walking or balance difficulties due to very rutted field.
The minimum age for a participant is 10 but aged under 16 would require you to pay and bring along an adult spectator. If you are an adult participating then the minimum age for a spectator is 14.
