ALL ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE

Full Day Falconry Experience - Fife

A wonderful opportunity to get hands on with some stunning birds of prey. Spend 6 hours handling hawks, owls, kites and falcons in the Kirkcaldy countryside.

This unique experience gives you the chance to spend a full day learning all about different birds of prey, including insights into their diets and habitats. In their natural outdoor environment, you will get the chance to handle a range of magnificent raptors and learn all about the training processes they go through to become skilled and disciplined hunters.

The art of falconry goes back around 4,000 years and with this full day experience you will get to grips with some of the ancient practices still used today, as well as some more recent sporting techniques that the modern world has brought to falconry. Upon arrival at the centre, you'll meet your experienced instructor who will brief you on any safety aspects to consider. Then it is time to meet the real stars of the show...the birds themselves! You'll be kitted out with specialist gloves before experiencing the rush of adrenaline as a hawk or owl swoops with outstretched wings to land safely on your fist. If you decide that the actual hunting side of falconry isn't for you, not to worry...this simply means that you'll get to spend more time flying some of the other resident raptors and getting to know them better! There will be plenty of opportunities to learn about the work that the centre do, and you'll be encouraged to ask as many questions as you can think of. Throughout the experience, you'll be outside, exploring the natural environment of the birds, so it is important to remember that they are predators - keep your eyes peeled to witness them in full splendor as they dive for the rewards provided by their trainers, it really is spectacular!

This full day bird of prey experience is a fantastic way to get to grips with falconry training, and makes a wonderful gift for nature-lovers. The birds are beautiful and intelligent animals to work with, and their trainers are fountains of knowledge, making this experience suitable for old and young!
