Sightseeing Tours Experience Days: Set off on a magical journey from Edinburgh, heading towards the Scotland/England border to discover the incredible historic monuments that await.
Your full day excursion begins in Edinburgh, where your tour guide will be waiting. You’ll hop in the bus to begin your scenic journey over the Scotland/England border. Your guide will drive you through the gorgeous countryside that surrounds the borders, passing through picturesque towns and villages that will set the tone for what’s to come. Your first stop is Melrose, a picture-perfect civil parish straight out of a postcard. There, you’ll visit Melrose Abbey. Enjoy wandering around these beautiful ruins, and keep your eyes peeled for the distinctive sculptures that make this historic site so unique, from hobgoblins to a bagpipe-playing pig! Next, you’ll head to Alnwick Castle: the second-largest inhabited castle in England. Breathe in the history as you explore its medieval interiors and impressive gardens, and don’t leave without visiting its library which is home to 14,000 books. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped right into the set of Harry Potter – which is fitting, because a great deal of the films were filmed there, along with some scenes from Downton Abbey. You’ll conclude your visit by exploring the medieval market town of Alnwick. With plenty of shops, pubs and cafes to keep you busy, time will fly before it’s time for you to hop back in the bus and head back to Edinburgh. The journey home takes you over the East Coast, a perfectly picturesque way to end your day.
This full day excursion from Edinburgh makes a fun gift for anyone who loves sightseeing, and is a great family day out.
