As well as participating in one of their fantastic chocolate workshops in London last week, I was also lucky enough to get an interview with Hannah Saxton, the founder of My Chocolate. With a range of experiences on offer, from corporate events to hen parties, there are tonnes of reasons to get your hands dirty making delicious chocolates!

    1) Please explain your journey as ‘My Chocolate’ so far.

I left university nine years ago and used my saved-up student loan to set-up MyChocolate, the UK’s first chocolate making events company. For the first year, I ran workshops from my tiny flat in Shepherd’s Bush and spent evenings working as a waitressing to make ends meet! Once the word got out about MyChocolate, I was lucky enough to receive great press coverage and the bookings started to roll in. We now run around a hundred workshops a month in London, Manchester and Brighton for gift experiences, hen parties and corporate events.

    2) What has been the biggest or most memorable event you’ve provided?

There have been so many! If I had to pick the top few I’d say appearing on The Apprentice and running a huge corporate event at the Ritz.

    3) Is there any inside information you can give us?

There’s a little more to chocolate making than most people think! Our workshops focus on the fun side of chocolate making but we like everyone to leave with a few tricks of the trade. For example, we teach Tempering, the process of cooling chocolate down so it’s the right temperature to work with and how to use transfer sheets, which print edible pictures on your chocolates.

    4) Do you have any exciting plans for the future that you’d like to tell us about?

We are currently working on a new product. I can’t say anything at the moment but we will have an exciting announcement soon!

    5) What would you say is your most frequently asked question?

“Can I take my chocolates home with me?” The answer is always yes, unless you eat them all during the workshop!
