Paragliding is the most thrilling and dramatic extreme sport there is. The past few years have seen it grow rapidly as more and more people discover the rush, fun and freedom it gives you. If you have ever dreamed of experiencing the incredible adrenaline rush you get whilst flying high above the ground with only the clouds and the birds for company, than this EPC and CPC Paragliding course will make those dreams a reality. Upon completion of the EPC (Elementary Pilot Course), you should be capable of site selection, weather assesment, self launch and flight planning, and be able to perform a flight with turns and a landing. The CPC (Club Pilot Certificate) advances the EPC holder onto soaring skills, often with flights of 15-20 minutes or more, landing back on the top of the hill. Once you have achieved the CPC, you will be able to fly solo without an instructor and become a calm and confident independent paraglider! Discover the world's beauty from an angle shared only with birds and planes with this thorough and stimulating paragliding course.

The Elementary Pilot Certificate, or EPC, is the first paragliding license there is, and will see you master ground handling (controlling the wing on the ground), turning and completing your own flight plans. You will also be taught all the theory you need to know, including meteorology, principles of flight and air law. The CPC will teach you how to fly your paraglider in lifting air, and perfect defined turns and elaborate flight plans which will enable you to soar for the first time. With this course, you will acquire more in-depth knowledge and experience more flying conditions, as well as flying higher and for much longer than ever before. You will also explore the flying characteristics and stability of your wing more fully, as well as learning how to use air currents to stay airborne. The course will cover rapid descent techniques and practice landing. In addition to the practical development of your flying skills, substantial theory is provided to ensure you have a thorough theoretical understanding of safety, air law, site assessment and meteorology. Club Pilot is an international recognised certification and will increase your skill level and theoretical knowledge to prepare you for flying solo!

The minimum age to fly solo is 14.
There is no upper age limit, although you must give details of any medical condition that may affect your ability in the air.

The weight limit for paragliding is 14 stone (90kg), and your weight should be in proportion to your height.
You should also have a reasonable level of fitness.
The EPC & CPC Paragliding Courses in Derbyshire generally last for about 9 days, although this depends on individual development.
Family and friends are more than welcome to come and see you fly, although for safety everyone must keep to allocated spectating areas, and children must be supervised at all times.
There are toilets, a viewing area and a flying shop on site as well as a pilot’s room and classroom.

A cafe runs Wednesday through to Sunday (closed Monday & Tuesday), where you can get refreshments (hot and cold snacks & drinks, crisps and chocolate...etc).

Dogs are also welcome, but please keep them on a lead and clean up after them.
Paragliding in Derbyshire is available all year round - please check with our customer service team for specific availability.
Sturdy boots with ankle support and no hooks are crucial for paragliding, as are gloves.

You should dress warmly - layers are always a good idea, that way you can take some off if you get hot. Flying is hungry work so it is advisable to take a packed lunch, and of course plenty of water to drink. Shorts are not advised, but suncream and a hat are essential during summer.

The centre will provide you with all the paragliding gear you need.
Weather is very important for paragliding and you need the right conditions. It is advisable to call the centre on the day of your paragliding lesson to check if it is definitely going ahead - if it rains or the wind is too strong, then your flying day may be shortened or postponed. If this occurs, a new day of flying can be booked.
