Fish and meat involve a number of tricky culinary skills that can take time to get a grip on, but if you get it right you can create the most delicious gourmet masterpieces. The Half Day Meat or Fish Cookery Experience in Exeter gives you the choice of two highly informative and enjoyable classes, teaching you valuable skills and techniques that you can replicate at home.

If you choose to perfect your meat and butchery skills, you'll spend two and a half hours learning basic butchery techniques and how to work with less common cuts of meat, producing a delicious range of dishes from herb crusted roast rack of lamb to confit leg of chicken. You'll learn all there is to know about making your own stock, pan searing, resting cooked meat, seasoning, and the all important presentation. If you go for the fish cooking course, the day will start with an introduction to the different types of fish, focussing on round seabass and flat brill. The skills you'll learn whilst working with these fish are transferable to most fish, so particularly valuable when increasing your culinary repertoire! You'll cook tasty pan-fried seabass with sautéed ratte potatoes, steamed seabass with ginger and pak choi, and fragrant brill gouchons with rapeseed oil aioli - a truly indulgent half day of cooking!

Both classes teach incredibly useful techniques that you can use time and time again, perfect for impressing at dinner parties! The Half Day Meat or Fish Cookery Masterclass makes a wonderful experience gift for budding chefs, or those who love to learn new things!


There is no minimum or maximum age limit as such.
As long as participants are able to handle knives, hot pans and other kitchen equipment safely, they will be fine to take part - if you are concerned, please ask before purchasing.

This is a 2 and a half hour cookery class with start times as follows:
Morning session:     9:30-12:00
Afternoon session: 14:00-16:30

Hot and cold beverages will be available throughout the workshop to keep you hydrated!
Your meat or fish masterclass is a hands-on experience and is not suitable for spectators.
However there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops to visit in the local area as the school is situated in the city centre.
The Meat or Fish classes can be booked throughout the year, usually a couple of times per month.

All cookery equipment, such as knives, pans, bowls and aprons will be provided by the school upon arrival so there's no need to bring your own!

You are advised to wear comfy shoes, as you will be on your feet throughout your experience - open-toed shoes are not appropriate in the kitchen (safety precaution).

Please be prepared to tie long hair back.
The cookery workshop takes place in a state of the art, purpose-built cooking school, so will not be affected by the weather.
