Kitesurfing Course at Camber Sands in Rye - learn the beginner skills behind the fantastic watersport, whilst discussing and practicing with an expert.

Kite Surfing Experience Days: Kitesurfing takes the best from surfing, wakeboarding, windsurfing and paragliding to form one incredible and thrilling sport, which goes some way to explain its immense popularity. If you have always been fascinated by the skill of kitesurfers as they glide and jump through the air, but thought it would take years to learn...then think again. Learning to Kitesurf has never been easier than right here, with this fantastic and thorough introduction. You will be taught by International Kitesurfing Organisation (IKO) and British Kite Surfing Organisation (BKSA) approved instructors, whose expertise is second to none. They will guide you as you learn how to set up a kite, fly it confidently, control its power and use it to fly through the water - this is called body dragging - sounds sinister but it's great fun!. This is simply the best course available for beginners....once you have experienced the thrill of body surfing at high speeds in the sea and the air, we know you will soon be back for your next kitesurfing fix.

Once you have arrived and been welcomed to the centre, you will begin your Kitesurfing lesson with the theory. This will give you all the fundamentals of kite flying (obviously an essential part of kitesurfing!) and give you an introduction to all the equipment, trainer kites, kitesurf kites and safety. Once you understand the basics, it's on to flying some Power Kites, and learning about the wind window (flyable area for the kite) and how to safety release. The fun really starts when you hit the water and start practicing body dragging, which is being pulled over the water by the kite. This is when you will really start to appreciate the power that these kites generate. The day will conclude with a debrief of the key points covered over the course of the day and your improvement.

What to Wear

All equipment is included in the cost of your kitesurfing lesson - this includes wetsuits, life jackets, boards, harnesses, helmets, kites, leashes, bar and lines and insurance.
The first part of the course is land based so you will need trainers or other flat, sensible shoes, and warm clothes - sadly it is not always that warm on the beach! In hotter months, you should bring sun protection and sun glasses. Swimming trunks, swimming costumes and bikinis are fine to wear underneath the wetsuit. You should also bring a drink, a snack and, of course, a towel!

weather.svg
Weather

Please note that dates are never fully guaranteed due to the dependency on weather. Kitesurfing is weather-dependent - you need wind & tides to move. It is important to be aware of changes in the wind speed, direction and sea state, and useful to check a couple of forecasts before you go kitesurfing. Kitesurfing Lessons are held at Camber, East Sussex and Greatstone in Kent (10 miles apart) depending on which way the wind is blowing! Please contact the centre on the day to confirm.

The instruction was great, and I enjoyed practising with the kite in the water, but it was a bit disappointing to learn that we wouldn't go near a board without further lessons.

I had never tried anything like this before and I was really excited to have a go! It was an incredible day out, our instructor was so patient and helpful and made sure we understood how to control the kites properly. By the end of the lesson we were able to control the buggies (sort of), which was an amazing experience! I want to go again!

Had an awesome day, we got used to handling the smaller kites then upgraded the larger more powerful ones. Given the wing was quite gusty we just used the buggy, but if the wind was more steady we could have used the board as well. I had a great day and shared the equipment with only 3 others so I got plenty of time to try it out. If only I lived nearer the sea I think I'd be hooked.
