This Dorchester Brewery Experience is a full day behind-the-scenes introduction to the process of beer brewing, from barley to bottle. Spend a day learning to brew beer and even take a keg home!

Brewery Experience Days: Beer fans in Dorchester, this is the experience for you! Spend a full day learning to brew beer, and get a fascinating insight into the brewing process. With the guidance of a professional brewer at the Dorchester Brewhouse and Kitchen, you'll go through all the steps from mashing in to fermentation, learning the hows and whys of brewing - and of course, enjoying a nice cold beer or six along the way!

The day starts with a hot drink (the beer comes a little later on, don't worry), and an introduction to the Dorchester Brewhouse and Kitchen as well as the brewery that creates some of the fine beers it serves. Then it's time to get to work. The first step is the mash in, wherein the grains are put in the mash tun with hot water, to allow the starches to break down. Once this is started, you'll have a bacon sandwich and beer tasting break and a chance to discuss the process of mashing in. After this, you'll move on with the next steps of the process; the transfer, re-circ and sparge, digging out the mash tun, and starting the boil with added hops. This done, it's time for lunch which is provided for you in the pub. It's about time for another pint too at this point, so pick from the craft ales you've already and tasted enjoy a nice crisp one! When you're fuelled up, it's back to the brewery to continue by adding more hops, as well as kettle finings - these are clarifying agents that make the final product clean and clear. Once the mixture is ready, you'll transfer it to the fermentor and clean up.

Upon leaving, you will receive a certificate and a 5L mini-keg of brewed beer (valued at £25) to take home on the day. Alternatively if you would like to take your own brewed beer home, then the beer will need time to ferment so the keg will be ready for collection 2 weeks after the experience day.ay.

Of course, you could always stick around for another pint in the pub... you've earned it!

For beer lovers, or anyone who's ever dreamed of brewing their own beer, this full day Dorset brewing experience in the Dorchester Brewhouse and Kitchen is the perfect way to spend a day - a great experience gift and a superb insight into the world of brewing.

Ian met us with a warm welcome. The bacon roll was very welcome - as was our first taster! I was surprised by the compact size of the brewing plant set up - but it worked so well. Ian kept us so well informed in an easy cheerful way throughout the day, offering us little anecdotes, which we were able to respond to with similar stories. The samples were well spaced in a logical, progressive way, from light ales to darker and finally the almost black. Lunch was very welcome, too. We wound up at just after 4.30 with a pint, and a 5litre cask of our choice of ale. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day .from start to finish and already I am already letting my friends know how great the day was.
