- Firstly, how did Airways Airsports begin?
It started in 1995 in the Hope Valley in Derbyshire, we have then moved to the airfield in Ashbourne where we have been for the past 15 years.
- What tips would you give a first-time paraglider/hang glider?
You should trust our wonderful instructors, trust the kit, and try to relax. It’s easy for us to say but all aircraft respond better, and you can feel what is going on with the wing and the air around you if you don’t tense up.
- What sets Airways Airsports aside from other competitors within the Airsports industry?
We have a great team of friendly instructors – we choose them very carefully and we pride ourselves on making people feel welcome at the airfield. Because we are airfield based, we have a clubroom, a café and flushing toilets on site!
4. Finally, what do you love the most about paragliding/hang gliding?
I have been flying since I was 19 (MANY years ago!) and have been obsessed ever since. I spent so many years flying and competing alone, and now I take people tandem to show them what it is all about. To fly with someone above the clouds, being joined by buzzards, and being able to put a huge smile on their face, is something that I never tire of. It is the grins in the Clubhouse at the end of the day that really makes it worthwhile for us. All of us instructors love to fly, and if we can pass on some of that excitement, that is what makes us happy!
