Beekeeping Experience Day Bedford

With this full day Bedford beekeeping experience, you'll have the chance to get up close to honey bees, learn how they work, and how to properly handle a hive!

This unique Full Day Beekeeping Experience in Bedford is the perfect experience gift for aspiring beekeepers, or anyone who is interested in the intricate lives of these very important insects! This half-day session includes fascinating insights into how to keep bees, plus the opportunity to handle hives like a real beekeeper.

Your beekeeping experience begins when you meet your guide at his apiary in rural Bedfordshire. Martin is an expert beekeeper with over 15 years of experience, who loves sharing his knowledge and passion for beekeeping with others. After a short introduction and safety briefing, Martin will give you your suit, gloves and sting pen – so you’ll really look the part! During this half day experience, you’ll be dealing with honey bees. Martin will demonstrate how to properly differentiate honey bees from other types of bees and wasps, teach you about the lives of bees and their individual roles within the colony, and show you the bees in action. Take a look inside the hive, where the bees will be hard at work. You’ll be shown how to remove a frame of bees from the hive, and what to look for on the frame. Next you’ll break for lunch, and Martin will answer any questions you may have. You’ll then spend the afternoon learning about various topics relating to honey bees including swarming, the ways in which bees communicate, and the complicated way they make honey. You’ll learn about honey extraction, and inventive ways to use honey besides eating it! Finally, you’ll discuss the major problems facing bees today such as climate, pesticides and predators. This is an absolutely fascinating, in-depth experience, and you’ll be amazed by what you learn in one day! You’ll end the day with tea, honey cake, and a jar of honey to take home with you.

This full day beekeeping experience in Bedfordshire is a unique gift for anyone who is interested in keeping bees or just wants to learn more about the fascinating lives of these unique creatures. Surprise the insect enthusiast in your life with an Experience Days voucher today!
