Kid's Kayak Experience

Let them gain some essential watersports skills from a young age to take into later life. This great experience is educational and good exercise, perfect for their young development!

Are your kids bored and desperate to put their energy into something new and exciting? Maybe there’s a birthday up and coming and your looking for the perfect party? Even just a treat for wild child, this is the perfect chance to let them loose on the water to learn a sport that has rapidly grown in popularity over the years. It has technique, skill, speed and fun all mixed into one to keep the minds and bodies busy with a big smile on that face!

This course in an introduction to Kayak skills built around games and a fun river trip. It is aimed at the complete novice or someone who has tried it out a few times (i.e. a holiday). The course and centre is regulated by the British Canoe Union (BCU) paddle boat scheme, developing paddle and boat skills while having fun on the water! After meeting your instructor you will be given an introduction to the equipment and a safety briefing. Then it's onto the boating lake! (Only 2 1/2 ft deep so ideal for this introduction). You will enjoy a combination of playing games and some skills challenges. The group will usually take a short trip up the river to a treasure island!

You must be reasonably fit and confident in the water. It is not necessary to be able to swim as everyone will wear a buoyancy aid. A medical declaration form must be completed before taking part that is signed by a parent or guardian. Minimum age is 6.

The session is 3 hours long with a toilet/snack break half hay through. Please allow approx 4 hours at the centre.

Spectators are welcome. The boat centre is located within a fully restored Victorian boat house providing toilets, showers and changing rooms. Drinks, ice creams and snacks are available. Spectators can hire a boat and enjoy themselves on the river and being in the centre of town there is easy access to shops restaurants etc. There is also a children’s playground next to the centre.

Dates are limited so it is recommended that you check availability in advance of purchasing a voucher. For groups with 4 or more, dates are available on request.

In warm weather basic sports wear will be info i.e. shorts and a shirt. Bring sun block.
In cold/rainy weather a fleece and tracksuit trousers are recommended, not jeans. A waterproof top will be provided.
Bring footwear you don't mind getting wet, a towel and a change of clothes. Buoyancy aids are provided and are compulsory to wear along with all paddling equipment.

This experience is only affected in severe weather.
