Off Road 4x4 One Day Training Course

This is a full 1 day course providing an ideal training session for those using 4 wheel drive vehicles in recreational or light industrial purposes. Throughout the day you will receive intensive tuition before your newly acquired skills are assessed by a qualified off road driver. By approaching situations with a 'hands on' approach you will gain a decent understanding and knowledge of the fundamental principles of Off-road 4x4 Driving.

Reading

You will drive on many ground types including flat open grounds with ruts, grounds that require wheel track planning and the methods involved when on slight, medium or steep ascents / descents. All of the techniques taught require precise steering and feedback whilst covering the risks posed. You will learn the fundamentals of differential locks, the risk of roll over situations, soft side slopes and the risk of instability. You will also learn and practice how to deal with shallow wading. This involves: checking water depth, water flow, maximum wading depth, gear selection and drying brakes. You will put into practice from the earlier brief the techniques involved with reading the ground. This includes driving for types of surface and variable traction. You will finish terrain training with the vital knowledge of how to return to the road after off road use and a debrief with feedback from your instructor.4x4 driving challenges every common law set by on road driving. Here you will learn to use the pedals and steering when off road, featuring a large range of techniques, including moving off, up or down minor hills and the coordination of clutch and foot brake in these situations. (Covers progressive use and ease-back techniques.)

 

You must hold a full driving licence.
There are no formal height or weight restrictions, but you must be able to drive an unmodified car.

Please allow 7 hours at the centre. (Approximately 9.00am till 4.00pm)

There is a maximum group size of 2 per vehicle for this experience. This price is per person. Spectators are welcome but a small charge may be incurred for refreshments.

This course is run on selected weekends and weekdays throughout  the year.

Please wear tough old casual clothes, and trainers that you don’t mind getting dirty.
